BE INVOLVED - PLAY VETERANS CRICKET

“Come on, you’ll surprise yourself”

Reckon you’ve got a few more games of cricket in the tank? Even if you can’t run a quick single or two or dive to save four runs, find a team and give it a go you’ll be surprised how fit you are when you come and play with some blokes your own age like these over 70s from Tassie and Victoria facing off at Ross in 2022
After match celebrations aren’t too bad either!

UMPIRING and SCORING

“with the Veterans community is really a labour of love”

Veterans matches in Tasmania

Veteran clubs are spread throughout the state and welcome anyone who would like to support them in whatever capacity. If you’re interested, you’ll find a spot. You can check out a local club here.  Umpires and scorers can similarly look for a club near you, or contact VCTas’s Match Officials Liaison Officer Mike Gandy

National Championship or Inter-state matches

Each year Veterans Cricket Australia conducts National Championships for Women (Over 40) and Men (Over 40, 50, 55, 60, 65 & 70)
Interstate umpires and scorers, preferably currently serving in the state’s Grade or Community competitions, are invited to participate in these events. VCTas’s Match Officials Liaison Officer Mike Gandy coordinates arrangements for Tasmanian umpires with the local Championship organiser.

Please note though, that while you are encouraged to take part, it is really a labour of love. While you will receive a small payment per match, you will have to pay for your own transport and accommodation., although ideally, you will travel and stay with your state team.  Ground transport at these events is generally pre-arranged.

Michael Terry and Bob Clark scoring at Echuca. Michael has been a long-term Manager of state and club teams.

VOLUNTEERS

“Try and get a game on Sunday without them”

Volunteering encompasses all of what Veterans Cricket stands for, it’s the life blood of our game, Like all Clubs and Associations everywhere, Veterans Cricket Tasmania relies on our volunteers. Try and get a game on Sunday without them! Who runs the club, organises everything, maintains and prepares the ground, Umpires and scores, etc. etc?
Not all volunteers play the game, but we love the game and we want it to grow, thrive and continue.

Contact us if you’d like to become involved and volunteer some time and your skills. We need you! Look how happy and healthy these volunteers are at Ross.
